SAN DIEGO (CN) - While she was on suicide watch in the Imperial County Jail, a sheriff's deputy coerced her into giving him oral sex in her cell, claiming it was the only way she would be released, a woman claims in Federal Court.
The 29-year-old plaintiff says she tried to kill herself after being arrested on suspicion of shoplifting, and was taken into protective custody. She says Deputy Sheriff Corbin Dillon coerced her into giving him oral sex by saying it was he only way she could be released on bond. This allegedly happened in October 2006.
She says Dillon was married to the granddaughter of then-Sheriff Harold Carter, whom she also sues.
She says sexual abuse of women detainees by sheriff's deputies is common in the Imperial County Jail. She says Dillon did not get her released on bond, but she was transferred into the general population at the jail, where other women told her similar stories.
One woman told her she had contracted syphilis and herpes in the jail from Imperial County Deputy James Morris, and that Morris was convicted of a felony for this, in a complaint that named three victims.
She says other deputies do the same thing.
She demands punitive damages. She is represented by David Zugman and Gerald Singleton.
