WASHINGTON (CN) - Identity theft accounted for 26% of the consumer complaints sent to the Federal Trade Commission in 2008 - 313,982 of the 1,223,370 complaints the agency received - the FTC said in a report released Thursday. The other most frequent complaints were about debt collectors - 9%, or 104,642 complaints - and home shopping and catalog sales (52,615) and Internet services (52,102) - each 9% of the total.
