SAN DIEGO (CN) - A defense contractor was sentenced Monday to 6 months in federal prison for stealing medical equipment meant to be shipped overseas to treat injured Marines.
Michael Tuisee, 34, of Oceanside also was ordered to pay $179,700 in restitution to the Marine Corps and cough up $8,250 in ill-gotten gains, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.
Tuisee and two co-conspirators worked in warehouses run by 1st Medical Logistics Co. in Camp Pendleton, the U.S. attorney said in a statement.
First MEDLOG, a civilian defense contractor, maintains medical equipment and ships it to combat forces around the world.
"Tuisee admitted that he conspired to steal expensive medical equipment from 1st MEDLOG, including ventilators, autoclaves, defibrillators, headlights, and laryngoscopes," prosecutors said in the statement. "Tuisee repeatedly stole these costly medical items, loaded them into his personal vehicle, and surreptitiously sold them to medical equipment resellers - often meeting with buyers during nighttime rendezvous in secluded parking lots."
