Housing Vouchers

The Department of Housing and Urban Development has changed its housing voucher rules for very low income families to allow the vouchers to be used on housing that is not yet under construction.

Now, vouchers can be used with mutual self-help or other sweat-equity programs, and in places where buying housing is otherwise prohibitive. The rule gives the very poor more options when there are long waiting lists for rental housing, and gives those who are disabled the ability to have accessibility modifications built into a unit, instead of using more costly aftermarket alternatives.
