WASHINGTON (CN) – Grants are available for local Stand Down events that assist homeless veterans by providing them with a wide variety of social services.
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service is accepting applications for awards of up to $10,000 per multi-day event, and $7,000 for a one day event. The training service anticipates that up to $400,000 will be available in each of the three fiscal years, to be split among about 45 grantees. However, the service points out that availability of Fiscal Year 2009 and Fiscal Year 2010 funds are dependent on Congress allowing money for it.
Applications will be accepted from state workforce agencies and state and local Workforce Investment Boards, Veterans Service Organizations, local public agencies, and non-profit organizations, including community and faith-based organizations, but not organizations registered with the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(4) organization.
