Homeless Advocates Sue Cincinnati|For Prohibiting Clustering Of Shelters

CINCINNATI (CN) – Advocates for the homeless say the Cincinnati City Council enacted an unconstitutional ordinance that prohibits shelters from being concentrated in areas where homeless people gather.

The ordinance declares that “social service agencies and programming shall not be concentrated in a single geographic area and shall not be locate in an area that is deemed impacted, this includes Over-the-Rhine.” The Greater Cincinnati Coalition for the Homeless and other groups claim this prevents them from serving the people who need their services the most, including recently released prisoners and disabled veterans.
The plaintiffs are represented in Federal Court by Timothy Burke.
