WICHITA, Kan. (CN) - Scott Roeder, who admitted in court to fatally shooting one of the few doctors in the United States who performed late-term abortions, was found guilty of first-degree murder Friday.
It took the jury only 37 minutes to reach the conviction in the death of George R. Tiller, 67, The New York Times reported.
Roeder said in court in May and that he had planned to kill Tiller for a while, and that shooting him May 31, 2009 in the forehead at Tiller's church was the only way to stop babies from dying.
Roeder showed no reaction as the verdict was read, the Times reported.
The conviction carries with it a sentence of life in prison. Roeder will be sentenced in March.
