DALLAS (CN) - Pro golfer Bobby Gates has been sued by his former agent, Quorum Sports Group, which claims he hired a new agent while still under contract with it.
Dallas-based Quorum claims in Dallas County Court that Gates, of Magnolia, hired it in 2009 as his exclusive agent for his golf career.
The agreement was to terminate on Jan. 15, 2012, and would automatically be extended for one year if neither party terminated the agreement at least 30 days earlier, Quorum claims.
But Quorum says it found out in October 2011 that Gates had hired another agent.
"In furtherance of the new agency relationship, Gates has engaged in negotiations, executed agreements with various vendors and golf-industry related companies during the term of the agreement in violation of the terms of the agreement and without compensating the plaintiff," the complaint states.
Quorum seeks damages for breach of contract.
It is represented by D. Woodward Glenn of Dallas.
Gates has played on the PGA Tour since 2011. He has four top 10 finishes in 53 events, and more than $1.1 million in career winnings, according to pgatour.com.
