Fire and Murder

NEW ORLEANS – A former assistant fire chief who did not attempt to fight the fire that engulfed his house while his wife was inside was properly convicted of her murder, the Louisiana Supreme Court ruled. His wife was clearly dead before the fire because there was no carbon monoxide or soot found in her lungs and but her cause of death remains unknown.

The court found that the “circumstantial evidence as a whole is quite incriminating.”
