WASHINGTON (CN) - A dispute between the federal government and ranchers in Nevada accused of grazing their cattle on federal land for years has been settled.
As part of an agreement announced Wednesday by U.S. Department of Justice, Benjamin Colvin of Colvin Cattle Co. acknowledged that he allowed his cattle to graze on public lands in Nevada's Nye and Esmeralda counties, and agreed to keep his livestock off federal land in the future. He also agreed to pay a $34,000 fine.
The feds filed suit in Las Vegas Federal Court in August 2007 against Wayne N. Hage, Benjamin Colvin and Colvin Cattle Co. for allegedly grazing cattle on federally managed land.
The agreement dismisses Colvin from the federal lawsuit. No settlement has been reached with the other defendants.
