FBI Investigating Whether Hospital Leaked Patient Info to Personal Injury Attorneys

LAS VEGAS (CN) - The FBI is investigating whether the University Medical Center released confidential patient records to personal injury attorneys looking for potential clients.

"Our main concern right now is to conduct a thorough and professional investigation for the purpose of determining what actually happened," the FBI said in a statement. "The FBI is closely working with UMC officials to determine the scope of any possible breach."

The probe comes after the Las Vegas Sun reported that patient "face sheets" containing a traffic accident victim's Social Security number, address and birth date were given out so attorneys in search of potential clients.
