WASHINGTON (CN) - The State Department has issued a proposal clarifying secondary school student exchange program screening, training and monitoring, which includes an FBI check and Sex Offender Registry check.
The department has proposed that all sponsors photograph the potential host family's home, query host families about income, require an FBI fingerprint-based criminal background check and a check of the National Sex Offender Registry for each potential host family adult, not pay host families, and send a sponsor representative instead of the local coordinator to perform the two month home visit, among other new requirements.
The department will accept comments on the proposal until June 2.
