Ex-Police Chief Sentenced for SJP Surrogate Scandal

(CN) - A former Ohio police chief has been sentenced to two years and eight months in jail for breaking into the home of Sarah Jessica Parker's surrogate in search of souvenirs.

Barry Carpenter, the former police chief in Martins Ferry, Ohio, broke into the house of the woman who acted as surrogate mother for Parker and Matthew Broderick's twins. Prosecutors said he was looking for items to sell to paparazzi.

Carpenter was convicted of receiving stolen property, theft in office and tampering with evidence. He was acquitted of a burglary charge.

Carpenter's attorney, Dennis McNamara, said he would appeal the sentencing to the Ohio Supreme Court.
