Hundreds of people sued Shell Oil Co., Castle & Cooke and others in Los Angeles Superior Court, claiming they contaminated an oil tank farm in Carson and a nearby housing tract with carcinogenic chemicals for years.
Childers Oil Co. and Mountain Rail Properties contaminated the water supply of Whitesburg, Ky., twice with oil sludge, forcing a dialysis clinic to close both times, the clinic says in a demand for $119,000 in Pikeville, Ky. Federal Court.
