Denmark registered a remarkable 2.7% unemployment rate in May, the lowest in the European Union. Overall, unemployment was stable in the EU at 6.8%, down a bit from last year. The largest employment gains over the last year were seen in the former Eastern Block countries of Poland (9.8% unemployment down to 7.5%) and Bulgaria (7.1% to 5.7%). The greatest loser of jobs was European Cup Champion Spain where unemployment jumped about two points to total almost 10%.
