SAN DIEGO (CN) - Federal prosecutors charged eight people with running an immigrant-smuggling ring that made more than $600,000. Prosecutors say since 2001 Marisela Castro-Juarez led the ring that smuggled people inside "special dashboard compartments" and car trunks, and that they used some of the $600,000 to buy a house in Chula Vista.
Here are the defendants: Marisela Castro-Juarez, 38; Marisa Melena Mafnas (sic), 33; Randal Mark Panter, 47; Jose Parada Velazquez, 38, all of Chula Vista; David Montes, 25, of Los Angeles; Julie Hernandez, 33, of Fresno; Lorenzo Pecoraro, 43; and John Walter Schuh, 45, both of San Diego.
