Courthouse Flooded

A broken water pipe led to the closure of the Van Nuys East Courthouse in Los Angeles County on Monday morning, and court officials say it could be some time before they dry everything out.

VAN NUYS, Calif. – A broken water pipe led to the closure of the Van Nuys East Courthouse in Los Angeles County on Monday morning, and court officials say it could be some time before they dry everything out.

The pipe burst over the weekend.

A temporary courtroom and office space have been set up at Van Nuys Courthouse West due to the flooding. Court officials expect the east building to be closed for several days as they review the damage.

Five courtrooms, a jury assembly room, the District Attorney’s and Sheriff’s Office, elevator bays and other office space were all damaged by the deluge. More than 100 workstations were relocated on Monday.

The burst pipe was located on the fourth floor, and flooding went all the way down to the basement.
