BOSTON (CN) - A steel contractor can sue a steelworkers' union for allegedly intimidating steel manufacturers into hiring union contractors, the 1st Circuit ruled, partially reversing an antitrust lawsuit against the union.
The court agreed with the district court's ruling that the union's subsidy program, which helps union contractors with wages and bidding, is exempt from antitrust laws. However, the court said the union's alleged strong-arm tactics to pressure steel makers into hiring union workers is not exempt.
