Couple Say Bank’s Lawyer Defamed Them

PORTLAND, ORE. (CN) - A married couple claims Bend, Ore., attorney Martin Hansen defamed them in five letters to property and construction companies that falsely accused them of taking a $3 million loan from the Bank of Cascades and sending the money to a Swiss bank. The letters from Hansen, acting as legal counsel for the Bank of Cascades, implied that the couple intended to steal the $3 million and avoid creditors, John and Cathy Schleining say. They say the false allegations cost them several business relationships. See complaintin Multnomah County Court.
