Council Minutes Can Remain Confidential

(CN) - Kauai County is not required to disclose the minutes of a closed meeting that discussed whether the county council should investigate alleged unethical activity by the Kauai Police Department, the Hawaii Court of Appeals ruled.

Judge Foley said the minutes should remain private, because the council members had discussed whether the county should investigate the department and strategies for doing so. They had also consulted the county attorney on legal issues regarding the council's power, duties and immunities.
