WASHINGTON (CN) - Congress passed legislation Thursday that provides $94.2 billion in emergency supplemental funds to federal agencies, which is $9.3 billion more than what President Barack Obama had requested.
The House Appropriations Committee designated $8.1 billion to the Department of Defense. Pandemic flu preparedness and reinforcement against violence along the United States- Mexican border also received supplementary funding.
Fighting between Democrats and Republicans flared up over the border situation. Republicans argued that not enough money was going towards fighting violence realated to Mexico's drug wars.
