Class Accuses Facebook Of Privacy Violations

     SAN JOSE (CN) – Facebook violated consumers’ privacy and computer laws in a joint venture with advertisers, a class action claims in Federal Court. Plaintiffs claim Facebook disseminated information about their Internet purchases to “user friends” through its Facebook Beacon program.

     Defendants include Facebook, Blockbuster, Fandango, Hotwire, Sta Travel, Overstock.Com, Zappos.Com, and Gamefly.
     Plaintiffs say Facebook altered its allegedly abusive and illegal “Facebook Beacon” program from opt-out to opt-in sometime in November 2007. Plaintiffs demand more than $5 million in damages. They are represented by Alan Himmelfarb with Kamber Edelson of Vernon, Calif.
