MANHATTAN (CN) - The owner of a building damaged by the May 30 crane collapse that killed two people has sued the construction and crane companies, claiming poor training, defective cranes, and improper welds on the crane were hidden from the New York City Buildings Department. The crane accident at 91st Street and Second Avenue was the second fatal crane accident in New York City this year.
Plaintiff First & 91 LLC owns the building across the street from where the crane was. The crane fell onto the plaintiff's penthouse, damaging the building and forcing tenants to evacuate.
The property owner sued 1765 First Associates LLC, Leon DeMatteis Construction Corp., New York Crane & Equipment Corp., and Sorbara Construction Corp., in New York County Court.
DeMatteis was the general contractor. New York Crane and Sorbara maintained and operated the crane, the complaint states.
Plaintiff demands $100 million in damages. It is represented by David Jaroslawicz with Jaroslawicz & Jaros.
