Biden announces judicial nominees in Pennsylvania, Vermont

The announcement brings the total number of judicial nominees during Biden’s tenure to 244.

WASHINGTON (CN) — President Joe Biden on Thursday announced four judicial nominees for seats in Pennsylvania, Vermont and the Court of Appeals.

The announcement brings the total number of judicial nominees during Biden’s tenure to 244.

Karla Campbell was nominated for the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, which is based in Cincinnati covers Tennessee, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio. 

Campbell is counsel at the firm Stranch Jennings & Garvey PLLC in Nashville, where she’s worked since 2009. Before joining the firm she worked at Watson & Renner in Washington. She received her bachelors from the University of Virginia and her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. 

For the Boston-based First Circuit Court of Appeals, which covers Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Puerto Rico, Biden nominated Maine Superior Court Justice Julia Lipez, a former assistant U.S. attorney in the District of Maine. She worked in private practice at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP in New York. 

She received her bachelors from Amherst College and her law degree from Stanford Law School. 

Catherine Henry was nominated for the federal district court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. She has been an assistant federal defender in the district since 2001, spent five years as a public defender in Philadelphia and worked as a staff attorney at the Feminist Majority Foundation in Arlington, Virginia. 

Henry received her bachelors from Drew University and her law degree from the District of Columbia School of Law. 

Mary Kay Lanthier was nominated for the District of Vermont. She has been a public defender in Rutland County, Vermont, since 2007 and was previously a public defender in Addison County. She also served a stint in private practice at Marsh & Wagner PC. Lanthier received her bachelors from Amherst College and her Juris Doctor from Northeastern University School of Law.
