Bank Allegedly Loaned To A Dead Guy

FORT WORTH (CN) - Talk about lax lending. A BMW dealer claims Fifth Third Bank approved a $32,000 loan to a man who had been dead for three weeks.

Neal Autoplex says Fifth Third approved a loan to Henry Jess Anders on May 8, though Anders had died on April 21.

"When buyer defaulted, it was discovered that the alleged buyer was a relative of the purported named buyer, Henry Jess Anders," the car dealer claims in Tarrant County Court.

"Defendant was apparently more interested in making a car loan than doing its due diligence and is now trying to hold plaintiff liable for defendant's negligence," the Autoplex says. It demands that the bank pay off the $31,931 loan.
