The Minnesota Court of Appeals rejects a driver's bid to pursue claims for negligent selection of an independent contractor, finding that no such claims exist in Minnesota law.

In an order now being appealed to the Minnesota Supreme Court, the Minnesota Court of Appeals found that a beet truck driver could not assert claims against a beet farmer whose independent contractor hired another beet truck driver without verifying that he had a valid driver's license. Minnesota law, the court found, did not recognize tort claims for negligent selection of independent contractors.
