Actor Accused of Assaulting Service Worker

QUEENS, N.Y. (CN) - A service worker at JFK airport claims actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers assaulted and battered her "without any cause or provocation."

Kathryn Williams says she was working as a service director when the Irish actor "verbally and physically" abused her at about 6 a.m. on May 7, 2010, "causing her to sustain physical injuries and severe emotional distress."

She seeks damages for assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and outrage.

She is represented by Berson & Budashewitz.

Rhys Meyers starred as the unfaithful, murdering husband in Woody Allen's movie, "Match Point."

EDITOR'S NOTE: On Thursday, March 16, Michael Miller, attorney for Jonathan Rhys Meyers in Los Angeles, responded to the lawsuit with this statement to Courthouse News:

"This is nothing more than a blatant attempt to shake down a celebrity, and it is not going to succeed. Ms. Williams began publicizing her allegations only after Mr. Meyers said no to her demand to be paid an exorbitant amount of money for something that never happened. The fact is that Mr. Meyers and Ms. Williams had no physical contact whatsoever nor was he verbally abusive. It's as simple as that. If we have to go to court to establish the truth, we will do just that - and we have no doubt that we will prevail."
