WASHINGTON (CN) - Fifty-seven federal prisoners claim the USA failed to evacuate them from prisons at Beaumont, Texas (56) and Pollock, La. (1) before, during and after Hurricane Rita, leaving them trapped for four days in water up sometimes to their necks, in water soiled by human feces, in unbearable stench, with no lights or air circulation. They seek $250,000 per claimant, and say another 369 prisoners are preparing to sue on identical claims. See the federal complaint.
