SAN DIEGO (CN) - A California appeals court allowed a senior licensing officer in the Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property Service office at the University of California-San Diego to pursue a whistleblower claim alleging he was fired in retaliation for complaining about the illegal activities of his supervisor.
Larry Brand accused Alan Paau of being involved in "serious and unlawful fraud and misappropriation of funds," self-dealing and other conflicts of interest.
He claimed he was retaliated against and ultimately fired for filing grievances about Paau's misconduct.
The court allowed Brand to proceed with his lawsuit, ruling that he has a viable claim that the university failed to reach a timely decision on the internal grievance.
