ST. PAUL (CN) - Sen. Norm Coleman sued Al Franken in Ramsey County Court, challenging the Minnesota State Canvassing Board's declaration that Franken won the Nov. 4 election for U.S. Senate. Coleman claims there were "numerous and material errors, mistakes and other irregularities in the counting, tallying recording, adding, returning and canvassing of ballots".
The Canvassing Board on Monday declared Franken the winner by 225 votes. Coleman wants three "inspectors" appointed to go over the 2.4 million ballots again.
Coleman's lawsuit, which was expected, could delay Franken's seating in the Senate for months.
Coleman is represented by Tony Trimble of Minnetonka and Dorsey & Whitney of Minneapolis.
