BRONX (CN) - Menudo Entertainment says Oscar Llord falsely claimed to be the manager of the reconstituted Menudo band, and that he owned the Menudo trademark, costing them money and reputation. Menudo claims Llord was president and CEO of Sony Discos when their relationship began, and that Llord dealt with them on behalf of his own record label, co-defendant Ole LLC.
Plaintiffs New World Booking and Menudo Entertainment claim that Llord told them "that as president and CEO of Sony Discos he was the 'most powerful Latin record industry executive' in this country and that he would have 'no problem' securing a record label deal first for the new rendition of 'Menudo' ... In truth, Llord was on the verge of being dismissed by Sony Music at the time when he made such representations ... Shortly thereafter he was, in fact, dismissed by Sony Music for cause."
The complaint continues: "After his dismissal by Sony Music, Llord established his own record label - Ole Records - and then falsely represented and advertised at the Billboard Music Convention in Miami, Fla., that the new rendition of 'Menudo' was signed to Ole Records when in fact the new rendition of 'Menudo' was not in fact so signed."
The band says this embarrassed them in the industry.
Also named as defendants are Oscar Llord Entertainment and Creative Icons. Plaintiffs are represented in Bronx County Court by William Kutner of Freehold, N.J.
