(CN) - A federal judge in Oakland on Monday barred California from eliminating in-home care to 36,000 disabled and elderly people, saying the state's Medi-Cal budget cuts appear to violate federal law and would hurt the people who would be best served by being allowed to stay in their homes.
The old and disabled people sued the state and Fresno County on May 26 and U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken heard arguments on Sept. 17. Judge Wilken denied Fresno officials' motions to dismiss and sever.
