MANHATTAN (CN) - A lawyer for New York City was sentenced to 20 months in prison on Tuesday after pleading guilty to defrauding clients in real estate deals. Hugh Zuber, 39, pleaded guilty in December 2009 to two counts of mail fraud.
Zuber persuaded clients to accept risky purchase offers without disclosing that one of the buyers was his sister and that he had a business relationship with another buyer, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.
Zuber, formerly an attorney with the city's Office of Corporation Counsel, also was ordered to pay $384,000 in restitution and to forfeit $301,250.
