LOS ANGELES (CN) - Two more jail guards were indicted in the federal invesitgation that led to Los Angeles Sheriff Leroy Bava's resignation late last year.
A federal grand jury accused Joey Aguiar, 26, and Mariano Ramirez, 38, of using force against an inmate, and trying to cover it up with false reports that formed the basis of a false prosecution against the victim.
The sheriff's deputies are charged with conspiring to violate the inmate's civil rights, deprivation of rights under color of law causing bodily injury, and falsification of records.
If convicted of all charges, they could be sentenced to 40 years in prison.
They are the 19th and 20th deputies charged in the latest federal investigation of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.
