NEW ORLEANS (CN) - After raiding a chicken ranch, the Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals gave away the rancher's 620 hens, killed his 395 roosters, and a Rolex watch went missing too, the chicken farmer claims in court.
Trinh Tran sued the Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals on Aug. 14, in Orleans Parish Court.
Tran claims the LSPCA raided his ranch on Aug. 14, with five animal control officers and nine New Orleans cops, who arrested him and seized his animals, medicine and equipment - and someone swiped the Rolex.
Tran claims the entire raid was illegal - that he should have been given 5 days and/or a hearing to try to rectify any alleged violations before his property was seized. He claims he's been breeding chickens on his property for 20 years.
The City of New Orleans amended its code on March 7, 2013, to prohibit roosters, Tran says.
He seeks more than $50,000 in damages, plus damages for conversion, false arrest, false imprisonment, and violations of his right to due process.
He is represented by Steven Badeaux.
