$50,000 and no Remy Cointreau?

LOS ANGELES (CN) - Remy Cointreau claims in court that it paid $50,000 to a "brand integrator" to have its brandy appear in the movie "2 Guns" - but it didn't.

Remy Cointreau sued Envision Entertainment and the brand integrator, Brand-In Entertainment, in Superior Court.

Remy claims, in fact, that it overpaid Brand-In, sending it an extra $10,000 by mistake, and that Brand-In kept $9,000 of it.

The brandy maker claims it paid the $50,000 required by its contract with Brand-In, "in exchange for which Envision, Inc., would integrate Remy's product, Remy Martin XO or Remy Martin V.S.O.P. (the 'Product') into the motion picture '2 Guns.' ...

"The Agreement contains the following 'Stipulations of Integration:'

"'After an exhausting day dealing with drug lord Papi Greco and the DEA, Bobby (Denzel Washington) sits with Deb (Paula Patton) in a hotel room. He contemplates the past day's events over a glass of Remy Martin XO or Remy Martin VSOP (He mentions it by name as his favorite). Deb sits up next to him and pours herself a glass too. They begin to discuss their "so called" relationship before Bobby swills the rest of his drink and heads back to work. There will be verbal mention and visual support for Remy Martin XO or Remy Martin VSOP.'" (Parentheses in complaint.)

It didn't happen, Remy says. "(T)he Product did not appear in the picture at all."

Remy believes Brand-In paid "all or some" of its money to Envision.

Remy wants its money back, and damages for breach of contract, breach of faith, unjust enrichment and conversion. It is represented by its general counsel, David Babkow, and by Carlo Rodes, with McGuireWoods, of Charlotte, N.C.

The brand integrator contract and other documents are attached to the lawsuit as exhibits.
