5 Officers to Be Fired Over Chicago Police Shooting

CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson has filed formal administrative charges to fire the officer who fatally shot black teenager Laquan McDonald in 2014.

Johnson filed charges Tuesday to fire Officer Jason Van Dyke along with four other officers who were at the scene of the shooting.

The filing was expected after Johnson announced two weeks ago that seven officers involved in the shooting should be fired. Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said one of those officers resigned the day Johnson made his announcement and another quit Tuesday.

Johnson has said he wants the officers fired for making false reports.

Van Dyke was charged with first-degree murder the same day the city released dashcam video that shows him shooting McDonald 16 times. The video contradicts the accounts of officers at the scene.
