3rd Circuit Says Mumia Abu-Jamal|Deserves New Sentencing Hearing

PHILADELPHIA (CN) – The 3rd Circuit today ordered a new sentencing hearing – but not a new trial – for death row inmate Mumia Abu-Jamal, because of flawed jury instructions. Abu-Jamal, who was convicted of killing police Officer Daniel Faulkner during a traffic stop in 1982, has attracted an international following for his claims that he was convicted because of racism by the judge, prosecutor, and a mostly white jury.
