Iowa-book-ban-injunction

An Iowa federal judge largely halts enforcement of a state law banning hundreds of books from school libraries and any discussion of gender or relationships with elementary-school students, but leaves intact a requirement that schools notify parents if their children ask to be called by any name or pronouns other than those they are registered under.

U.S. District Judge Stephen Locher found that an Iowa law banning discussion of gender, relationships and sexuality in public schools and removing countless books from school libraries was "wildly overbroad," but that already-out LGBTQ youth did not have standing to challenge a provision that required teachers to out transgender students to their parents.
