You Cannot Be Serious,|Artist Tells New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (CN) - An artist claims New Orleans enacted a ridiculous law that prohibits her from selling numbered prints of her own work in Jackson Square. Barbara Yochum claims the ordinance allows artists to sell only "original" work in the square, defined as works "which have been accomplished essentially by hand and precludes any mechanical or duplicative process in whole or in part."

Yochum claims the city was enjoined from enforcing its unconstitutional law three times: twice in a claim from a fortune teller, and once in a claim from a photographer. But she says the city continues to enforce the law, and fears being fined as the court decisions, which the city ignores anyway, did not involve artists who sell signed, numbered prints.

Yochum is represented by James Logan IV in Federal Court.
