CHICAGO – Starr Indemnity & Liability Co. claims in a federal lawsuit that it does not have to defend Cook County for lawsuits over wrongful rape and murder convictions because the insurance policy only covers the county and the state’s attorneys who secured the convictions were not county employees.
The defendants are Cook County, Ill., Terrill Swift, Michael Saunders, Vincent Thames and Harold Richardson.
