LAS VEGAS (CN) – Suspended Judge Elizabeth Halverson testified before a grand jury Tuesday regarding allegations that her husband beat her over the head with a frying pan this month. The Clark County Court judge’s testimony wrapped up Tuesday afternoon. The grand jury is determining whether there is enough evidence against her husband, Edward Halverson, to send the case to trial.
Edward Halverson remains in jail, unable to post $113,000 bond. He faces charges of attempted murder and battery with a deadly weapon.
A year after wining her seat in 2006, Elizabeth Halverson was suspended amid accusations that she fell asleep on the bench, abused her staff and improperly communicated with jurors.
She endured a weeklong hearing this month to investigate those allegations, and won a 30-day extension in her dismissal hearing while she remained in the hospital. The Judicial Discipline Commission gave attorneys until Sept. 30 to file written arguments.
Halverson lost her bid for re-election in the August primary. Her term ends in December.
