SAN DIEGO (CN) - A worker died with his upper body trapped inside a platen press machine after his employer turned off the machine's three safety guards to make it faster, the late Ernesto Salazar's family claims in Federal Court.
While working for Plastic Display Products, a Vista manufacturing company, Salazar tried to grab a piece of plastic that had fallen off the machine and "was caught between the machine's flat steel plates," the complaint states.
Other employees tried to get Salazar out of the machine, but could not because of the three defective safety switches, it states.
Salazar's survivors are represented by Terry Singleton and Horacio Barraza with Singleton & Associates.
