Women’s Prison Blues

A former corrections officer sufficiently alleged that a “women-only” staffing policy at Michigan’s only prison for women – which was implemented to protect inmates from sex abuse by male guards – discriminates against women officers, a federal court ruled.

A terminated employee who was disciplined for refusing to work overtime and falling asleep on the job claimed women employees were required to work overtime far more often than men, “due to the need for women to fill certain positions.”
