Women Claim Store Guard Admits| He Watched Them Undress

BESSEMER, ALA. (CN) - Belk's Inc. offered two women a gift card to try to stave off a lawsuit after a security guard wrongfully accused them of theft, claiming he had watched on a hidden camera as they undressed in a changing room, the women claim in Jefferson County Court.

The women claim they were shopping at the Belk's in the Riverchase Galleria, and the security guard followed them out of the store and accused them, in "the very public food court in the mall," of having removed a security sensor from a pair of pants in the changing room. They claim the guard, "Derek," refused to look at the receipts they showed him, forced them to return to Belk's, "insinuated he watched (one plaintiff) remove her clothing while changing clothes," then offered them gift certificates "if they matter would go no further". They demand damages for invasion of privacy, harassment, false imprisonment, defamation, assault and battery and outrage. They are represented by Byron Perkins with The Cochran Firm of Birmingham.
