Woman Says Two-Timing NFLer Assaulted Her

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (CN) - A Hartford woman claims in court that former NFL player and ex-ESPN analyst Hugh Douglas assaulted her at the end of her 8-month affair with the professional athlete, whom she didn't know was married.

Hope Davila sued Douglas in Federal Court.

She claims she had been in a romantic relationship with Douglas for 8 months, during which time he "kept the fact that he was married hidden" from her.

On Sept. 22, 2013, they planned to spend the night at a Marriott in Hartford, Davila says in the lawsuit. But they quarreled and she decided to go home.

"Ms. Davila left Mr. Douglas' hotel room, walked down the hall and was about to enter the elevator when Mr. Douglas suddenly appeared and pulled her away from the elevator," according to the complaint.

It continues: "Mr. Douglas then lifted Ms. Davila up by her neck and began 'walking' her down the hall by the neck, with her legs dangling in the air, asphyxiating her.

"Mr. Douglas is six foot two and weighed approximately 280 pounds on the night of the assault. Ms. Davila is five-foot-five and weighed approximately 125 pounds on the night of the assault.

"During the assault, Mr. Douglas repeatedly banged Ms. Davila's head against the hallway wall, after which Ms. Davila lost consciousness.

"Ms. Davila briefly regained consciousness at the doorway to Mr. Douglas' hotel room as Mr. Douglas banged the back of Ms. Davila's head into the door's privacy latch and stated to her: 'That's what you get for not listening to me.' Ms. Davila lost consciousness again.

"When Ms. Davila regained consciousness for the second time, she was lying on the bed in Mr. Douglas's hotel room.

"Mr. Douglas was sweating and pacing back and forth.

"Ms. Davila was in pain and told Mr. Douglas that she wanted to go home.

"Mr. Douglas insisted that Ms. Davila stay and informed her she had a concussion. Mr. Douglas then had sex with Ms. Davila even though she was in no condition to be a willing participant."

On her way out of the hotel, Davila says, she asked whether there were video surveillance cameras in the hallways. The hotel staff could see she was distraught and there were bruises on her neck.

"The concierge and hotel security convinced Ms. Davila to stay and called for the police and an ambulance," the complaint states.

The EMTs' report stated" "Patient stated she was in a hotel room with a friend, tried to leave, and the friend became angry, and choked her. Patient stated she woke up on the bed, with a baseball sized hematoma on the back left of her head," according to the complaint.

Davila says she was treated at a hospital "for a concussion and a large hematoma to the back of her skull."

Douglas pleaded no contest in February to a misdemeanor in connection with the assault, according to the complaint.

Douglas played in the NFL from 1995 to 2004 for the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars. ESPN fired him after he made racially charged remarks, according to the Huffington Post.Davila is represented by Gloria Allred of California and Nina Pirrotti of New Haven.
