Woman Says Sailors Brained Her With a Bottle

(CN) HONOLULU - Partying sailors from the USS Stennis brained a woman with a liquor bottle by throwing it off a hotel balcony, and the Navy denied her injury claim even though officers removed those sailors, and others, from the hotel that night, and Honolulu police found more liquor in their room, the woman says in Federal Court.

Corliss Okimoto sued Uncle Sam and the Ocean Resort Hotel Waikiki. She says she suffered a traumatic head injury on May 31, 2009, when four sailors on leave threw "glass liquor bottles and other debris" from the balcony of Room 2045. She was brained by a liquor bottle.

Okimoto says a lieutenant staying at the hotel took the four sailors back to the Stennis, and that "earlier that evening, prior to this incident, other military guests were removed from the hotel."

She adds that "Detectives from the Honolulu Police Department found liquor bottles among other alcohol in Room 2045."

Despite all of this, Okimoto says, the United States denied her claim for injuries. It issued its final denial on May 9.

She seeks punitive damages for gross negligence.

She is represented by Randall Rosenberg.
