Woman Says Rats ‘Mangled’ Corpse

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (CN) - A funeral home allowed a dead body to be eaten by rodents, a woman claims in Kings County Court.

Gloria Pitre says the First Avenue Funeral Service and the RG Ortiz Funeral Home allowed the body of Daniel Pitre to become "attacked, ravaged, mangled and partially consumed by rodents or other vermin," rendering the body "disfigured and impossible for holding the open casket funeral requested by the family."

The alleged incident deprived the man's family of the right to "have a whole and complete body presented for burial appropriate to their religion and under law," according to the lawsuit.

Gloria Pitre is represented by Lance Ehrenberg of Manhattan.
