Woman Says Collectors Harassed Her|By Posting Debt on Her MySpace Page

PONTIAC, Mich. (CN) - A woman who fell behind in her car payments says Assets Recovered and two other companies violated collection laws by posting the debt on her MySpace page. She says they used other harassing, oppressive and abusive tactics, including threatening to report her as a car thief.

Assets Recovered is based in Texas. Paula Newland also sued Advanced Equity; Assets Recovered vice president Jamie Aranda also dba Troeux Research Investigation; Assets Recovered agents David Butler and Randy Davis; and Advanced Equity agent Joan Berkey, in Oakland County Court.

She claims the defendants also misrepresented the amount and nature of her debt, harassed her husband, and threatened to "camp out" in front of her home "all weekend," among other things.

She demands treble damages of more than $25,000. She is represented by Dani Liblang of Birmingham, Mich.
