PHOENIX (CN) - A saleswoman at a jewelry store says her boss strip searched her after she reported two diamonds reported missing from a merchandise case. Another employee found the diamonds elsewhere, the woman says, as the manager at Jared Galleria of Jewelry imprisoned her in a bathroom and assaulted her.
Sedary Hu sued Jared Galleria and its corporate parent, Sterling Jewelers, in Maricopa County Court. Hu says that she noticed that the diamonds were missing and reported it to her manager, Sandy Clark, at the Scottsdale store.
After a brief search, Clark allegedly ordered Hu, in front of other employees, to go into the store's bathroom to be strip-searched or she would be fired.
Hu, who is Cambodian, says she removed all of her clothing and cried as Clark touched her body while looking for the stones. When Clark did not find the diamonds she told Hu to return to the sales floor, but Hu says she could not stop "crying and shaking uncontrollably," and was unable to return to work.
While Hu was being searched, she says, another employee found the diamonds.She demands damages for nationality discrimination, wrongful firing, retaliation, wrongful imprisonment and other charges. She is represented by Susanne Ingold with Burch & Cracchiolo of Scottsdale
